Eric’s Commissioned Painting {WIP}

Here is the little sneak peek of the commissioned painting I am working on for Eric. Even though I know it can be so interesting, for some reason it’s difficult for me to show incomplete or early stages of my paintings. Portraits are a different story because once you get the basic features mapped out, viewers can get a sense of what the final product will look like. A painting, on the other hand, can change drastically and become something completely different in a matter of minutes/hours. So far, I have just laid out the blocks of color for this painting, you know, just working on the underpainting. It’s real important to get your composition lined out early when using a reference photo. You don’t want to get too far into the thing and realize your building is falling off the page, unless of course you are working on a really bomb surrealism piece. Always fun.

Hope you all have had a great week. I don’t know about you, but I have been busier than ever! I can’t believe the work I have been getting since jumping into the world of freelance. It’s been exciting, but a bit overwhelming! Trying to get everything done with 2 kids and daily renovation work in the house makes for constant activity from the time I wake up until the time I fall into bed. I constantly feel like I have several things that need attention and getting anything nailed down is a major struggle. I also have to get used to changing gears more often. Paint, change a diaper, feed kids, work on a design project, change laundry, feed kids, change a diaper, yell at the construction workers about why they are screwing everything up…Just kidding about that last one. I don’t yell at them. But when they screw up the tile for the backsplash in the kitchen, I certainly am going to ask them to chip it all off and start over from scratch, thank you. They are finally finishing today and, my goodness, it better be right this time. More about that fiasco later. Have an awesome weekend! We are prepping today for Elin’s 2nd birthday tomorrow and I am so excited for her! I am going to kick those tilers out of the kitchen as soon as possible so I can whip up a beautiful lambie cake for Elin in the new oven. Wish me luck!
